Tri Angle Records is very excited to announce the release of The Haxan Cloak’s eagerly awaited second album Excavation, to be released in North America on April 30 on CD and LP formats. Excavation will be available in all other international territories on April 15

In 2011 with the release of his debut, self titled album, The Haxan Cloak, solo project of multi instrumentalist, Bobby Krlic, appeared seemingly out of nowhere with an impressively fully formed sound that blew away most anyone who heard it. Recorded over the space of 3 years The Haxan Cloak was a wildly ambitious fusion of malevolent strings, junkyard found-sounds and primitive percussion, Krlic’s grand ambitions transcending the fact that it was all recorded in a shed at the bottom of Krlic’s parent’s home in Wakefield, Yorkshire. In the two years since the release of his debut, Krlic relocated to London and began working on it’s epic follow up, and Tri Angle Records debut; Excavation

Bolstered by the concept he was developing for his follow up and a desire to challenge himself into new terrains, Krlic has evolved his sound to incorporate more of his electronic influences. The result is an album awash with serrated beats and cavernous sub-bass, meshing with the classical drones and ghostly details The Haxan Cloak fans will have already been accustomed to. Excavation finds Krlic confidently adopting a more minimalist approach to his compositions, experimenting with space and silence without forsaking any of the intensity that made his debut such a powerful statement of intent.

If The Haxan Cloak was conceived as the soundtrack to a character’s journey towards death, Excavation is its sequel representing the journey after death. Excavation is about disconnecting entirely from this and entering upon a more astral plane, explaining some of the albums more ethereal, ambient moments that are in constant tension with jagged and aggressive elements. This journey isn’t supposed to represent an archetypal Heaven or Hell scenario, but something more abstract and unknowable; the abstraction of the situation being one of its most unsettling aspects. Excavation is another uncompromising, incredibly personal record from an artist who is continuing to operate very much within his own world.

As huge lifelong fans of Tim Hecker, we’re more than a little happy to unveil his remix of ‘Held’ by Holy Other. obviously we’re biased on every level possible, but his deconstruction of ‘Held’ is genuinely a beautiful thing to behold, creating caverns within the original work that make the already disorientated voices present on the original sound even more lost and confused. You can stream Tim Hecker’s remix of ‘Held’ here…

Also if you missed it from a few weeks ago, Teengirl Fantasy’s wonky club rewrite of ‘Love Some1′, featuring vocals from Kelela, is still streaming on Soundcloud…

This week one of the best music festivals in the world, Unsound, kicks off in Krakow, Poland. We’re very excited to have committed something of an unofficial takeover of the festival, with no less than 5 Tri Angle acts scheduled to perform. Those acts happen to be Evian Christ, Fatima Al Qadiri, Vessel (whose debut album ‘Order Of Noise’ is out today!), The Haxan Cloak, and brand new signing WIFE., whose appearance at Unsound this week will actually be his first ever live performance. Check here for details about when everyone will be playing.

Sticking with the festival theme, Holy Other will be finishing off his US tour with a couple of appearances at CMJ in NYC. On Friday he’ll be performing at the Pitchfork event at Villain in Brooklyn, alongside Death Grips, DIIV, and Joey Badass to name a few, and on Saturday he’ll be headlining La Poisson Rouge with amazing support from Autre Ne Veut and Vatican Shadow. Aside from the NYC dates, this week Holy Other will be stopping off to play some headlining shows in Oberlin and Philadelphia beforehand. Check the events section for dates and venues.

As well as all this Balam Acab, The Haxan Cloak (supporting Liars) and oOoOO are continuing on with their separate tours of Europe. They might be in a town near you very soon!

“One of the most engaging and gripping techno albums of the year.” – Resident Advisor (4 1/2 stars)

“Order of Noise shows how to balance the two extremes without committing to one single constant, and that anyone can make an original noise, but to make one that’s accessible takes skill.” – Drowned In Sound (8/10)

“The imperative to physically engage listeners still lies at the heart of Vessel’s approach and is key to its essential appeal. Through all these channels, we’re witnessing a conscious disassembling of club genres.” – The Quietus

25 year old multi instrumentalist James Kelly is, until now, best known as the sole permanent member and writer behind black metal outfit Altar Of Plagues, who have released two critically acclaimed albums on iconic labels Profound Lore and Candlelight. Using found sounds, homemade instruments and field recordings as a base, Altar Of Plagues create music “Full of radical tangents and alien-to-black metal elements, more focused on frailty and struggle than majesty and grandeur” – Pitchfork.

These ideas transfer to James’ solo recordings as WIFE. Embracing his long standing passion for electronic music the tracks on ‘Stoic’, his debut, limited edition EP which came out on left_blank in November 2012, showcase a diverse range of influences and are built to endure. The A-Side moves from the mournful, hypnotic opener ‘Bodies’, through the cold mantra of ‘Trials’, to the shuffling trickery of ‘Circles’. Side B contains the Gothic 2-step beauty of ‘Shards’ and the epic, industrial crescendo of ‘Endings’.

in 2013 WIFE. will be expanding upon his compelling initial offerings through Tri Angle.

Holy Other will release his debut LP Held on August 28 2012 on CD, LP and digitally.

‘To be held by someone; the opposition between comfort/restriction’

Following on from the release of his universally acclaimed debut EP With U in 2011, Holy Other is now ready to unveil his debut album Held.

Working with the same blend of R&B, UK garage and house sounds that influenced the funereal pop sounds of With U, Holy Other found another significant influence during the making of Held in listening to gregorian chant. This new found influence is most keenly felt in the monastic atmosphere that haunts sections of the album, as well as the ways in which holy other uses the voice in a way that sounds devotional and comforting in one instant, and unknowable and distant in another.

While it was never explicitly stated at the time of release, Holy Other opting to remain vague about the meaning behind the record, With U essentially chronicled the painful break down of a relationship. In comparison Held is about being confined to a relationship and the depth of emotions felt throughout its course. The muted euphoria of ‘Tense Past’ and the dramatic, brooding urgency of ‘Love Some1′, give way to sparser songs like ‘U Now’ and ‘Inpouring’ which sound like navigations through a foggy mind, culminating with the schizophrenic sensuality of the album’s title track and closing with the melancholic poignancy of ‘Nothing Here’, a song which perhaps best sums up the record as a whole. Held is both a lament to the fragility of human bonds and the desire for them to be tighter and longer lasting. Where With U was fuelled by a desperate urge to ‘feel something’, Held is possessed by a more resigned feeling, concluding with the acceptance that some bonds ultimately yield nothing.

Track List

01. (W)here
02. Tense Past
03. Inpouring
04. Love Some1
05. U Now
06. In Difference
07. Past Tension
08. Held
09. Nothing Here

‘Love Some1′, the epic and intense first single from the album is available to listen to here…

Managing to take the soulfulness of American R&B while remaining utterly futuristic, left field and still totally, instantly classic British pop.

AlunaGeorge released their debut EP ‘You Know You Like it’ through Tri Angle in April 2012.

Under the name Howse, 22 year old, Providence, Rhode Island resident, Nathaniel Oak, has crafted a chaotic, wired sound that draws inspiration from juke and jungle, taking those influences and twisting them into something blasted and blown out. Throughout his debut EP ‘Lay Hollow’ layers of blissed out jungle ambience compete to be heard over raw, frenetic beats and the dense howl of things falling apart, creating something fiercely unique and entirely absorbing.

The tail end of 2011 saw the emergence of material from a producer known only as Evian Christ with oblique YouTube videos accompanying music which seemed to occupy its own particular twilit corner of the musical landscape – poised somewhere at the crossroads between freaked, haunted ambience and sparse, twisted R&B. Signing shortly after to Tri Angle, Evian Christ (aka 22 year old Merseyside resident Joshua Leary) released a free mixtape, “Kings and Them” available for free download here, collating his 8 tracks to date, and heralding the arrival of a truly exciting new talent in the process.

In June 2012 a limited edition 12” collecting together four tracks from “Kings and Them” in new and remastered form, became the first proper physical release from Evian Christ. Over the span of these 4 tracks, the breadth of his unique vision is just beginning to be explored.

Fusing a rare talent for classical composition with a passion for exploring serrated electronic, drone textures, The Haxan Cloak’s cinematic, complex sound is not an easy one to fully explain in words alone.

In 2013 The Haxan Cloak will release his anticipated second album through Tri Angle.

In the past trying to pin down Vessel’s constantly evolving sound has never been an easy task, and with the release of his debut album it’s become a whole lot harder. In the past 12 months Vessel, aka, 22 year old Sebastian Gainsborough, has been introducing people to his sound via a series of 12” releases on a number of forward thinking, underground labels with each release confounding the expectations of those trying to get a grasp on what exactly he was doing. Order Of Noise is the culmination of his first exploratory steps as an artist, and the album Tri Angle Record’s believed Vessel was building up to. It signals the arrival of an innovative and intensely unique, young, electronic producer who has developed a sound that still has the potential to confuse and confound, but one that is now identifiable as being very much his own.

Using techno and house as a jumping off point Vessel manages to twist these things into something unconventional and alien, often creating music that sounds as if it’s rhythmically out of control when in fact it’s all tightly controlled chaos. It’s a testament to Vessel’s talent how he manages to rein all his ideas and sounds in with so much thoughtful precision. Veering from the spaced out, futuristic dub sounds of ‘Stillborn Dub’, to the pulsating mystical ambience of ‘Aries’, through to tracks like ‘Lache’ and ‘Court Of Lions’ which seem to invert the traditional notions of what a club track should be, Order Of Noise is an album saturated in ideas that manages to stand out as a wholly coherent statement of intent for the future.

Born in Senegal and raised by Russian-educated parents in Kuwait (although she summered in the UK), Fatima Al Qadiri eventually wound up in Brooklyn, where she’s been involved in New York City’s art world for several years as a photographer and visual artist. In her free time, she pens the Global. WAV blog for DIS magazine, highlighting a variety of obscure sounds from around the planet.

Al Qadiri happens to make music, both under her own name and as Ayshay, her more experimental project that’s signed to Tri Angle who released her debut EP ‘WARN-U’, a record which utilizes nothing but manipulations of her own voice, and takes inspiration from traditional Muslim worship songs.

His unique atmospheric sample based productions quickly got the attention of many other artists and has since worked with the likes of A$ap Rocky and The Weeknd. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration in stating that Clams Casino has undoubtedly become one of the most influential new producers currently operating within the scene.

How To Dress Well is the stage name of songwriter and producer Tom Krell. Krell’s burgeoning career began in 2009 when, having just moved from Brooklyn to Berlin, his songs began to emerge online via a hugely prolific string of free, digital EPs posted in anonymity on his blog. Combining a gorgeous falsetto with fractured R&B-influenced beats, an instinctive ear for subtly devastating melody and elements of noise, sound collage and avant-garde composition, Krell’s debut album ‘Love Remains’ released through Tri Angle in 2011 offered a beautiful window into a startlingly realised artistic imagination.

Having always chosen to shun the limelight not much can really be said about UK based producer Holy Other on any kind of personal level, but his intensely intimate music communicates more than biographical details ever could. Since releasing his debut EP ‘With U’ through Tri Angle in 2011, Holy Other has risen to become one of the most talked about and respected producers out there, something he fully justified with the release of his universally acclaimed debut album ‘Held’ in 2012.

While it was never explicitly stated at the time of release, Holy Other opting to remain vague about the meaning behind the record, With U essentially chronicled the painful break down of a relationship. In comparison Held is about being confined to a relationship and the depth of emotions felt throughout its course. The muted euphoria of ‘Tense Past’ and the dramatic, brooding urgency of Love Some1, give way to sparser songs like ‘U Now’ and ‘Inpouring’ which sound like navigations through a foggy mind, culminating with the schizophrenic sensuality of the album’s title track and closing with the melancholic poignancy of ‘Nothing Here’, a song which perhaps best sums up the record as a whole.

In 2010 Tri Angle introduced the world to Balam Acab (aka Alec Koone), and his otherworldly, secretive sound of submerged bass and phantom vocal harmonies, with the release of his universally acclaimed debut EP ‘See Birds’ a record which also happened to be the first official Tri Angle release. For Alec Koone, the 20 year old, Pennsylvania resident, who was 19 and based in New York at the time of his first release, ‘See Birds’ was just the beginning, going on to release his critically acclaimed debut album ‘WANDER/WONDER’ through Tri Angle on 2011, a mysterious and genuinely haunting record that seems to exist in a world all of it’s own making, balanced between the ecstatic ‘wonder’ referenced in the title and something altogether more indefinable and uncertain of itself.
